Boricua en el Medio: Puerto Rican Identity in the Midwest

Ángel Isaac RiveraIn this episode, originally broadcast on Sunday, April 20, 2014, I am joined by student, musician, and filmmaker Ángel Isaac Rivera, and we discuss a film he is currently making called Boricua en el Medio. This film focuses on the question of what it means to be Puerto Rican in the Midwest. We are also joined in the Riverwest Radio studio by Amanda Loomis, who has worked as a photographer on the film, and John Terry, my friend and longtime guest of the show. José Esparza, a friend who has lived for extended periods of time both in Puerto Rico and the Midwest, called in and joined the conversation during the second half of the show. We also featured music from Cypher Són, a hip hop group that Ángel is a member of. In addition to a link to a video of the show and the embedded Soundcloud file, I have posted links below to more information about the film and about the music we listened to. Enjoy!
